Dr David Kitchen

Dr David Kitchen trained in general medicine and surgery at The Flinders University of South Australia, graduating with the prestigious distinction of winning the Staff Prize in Surgery.
Following further practice in Emergency Medicine and General Medicine, Dr Kitchen went on to complete studies in Ophthalmology. He graduated with double Fellowships from both the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1996.

Dr Kitchen has practiced widely throughout regional Queensland since 1996, including Mackay and Bundaberg, but since 2007 settled with his young family in Rockhampton and now consults from CQ Eye and Central Queensland Cataract Centre in Rockhampton and Gladstone.
Through Central Queensland Cataract Centre Dr Kitchen sees and treats cataract patients from throughout Queensland. Patients travel from as far as Cairns, Toowoomba, and the Gold Coast for cataract treatment by Dr Kitchen and his expert team.
Dr Kitchen has personally performed more than 50,000 cataract surgeries, using state-of-the-art equipment. As a highly experienced Ophthalmologist, having been in practice for three decades, Dr Kitchen has an interest in cataract and intraocular refractive surgery, medical retina (primarily age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy), glaucoma, and oculoplastic surgery. Dr Kitchen is highly skilled and extremely efficient in his surgical techniques, and he operates more efficiently than most other ophthalmic surgeons. He also brings that expertise and efficiency into his consultancy practice.
As a Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology with the University of Queensland, Dr Kitchen is also heavily involved in the teaching of ophthalmology to final year medical students, general practitioners, as well as trainee and advanced optometrists.
Dr Kitchen is the only local resident full-time Ophthalmologist in Central Queensland.
He enjoys a round of golf or game of tennis when his schedule allows and is thankful to be raising his family within a friendly community.
