Dr David Kitchen

Dr David Kitchen studied general medicine and surgery at the Flinders University of South Australia, graduating with the prestigious distinction of winning the Staff Prize in Surgery and the Staff Prize in Anatomy.

Following further practice in Emergency Medicine and General Medicine, Dr Kitchen went on to specialise in Ophthalmology. He graduated with double Fellowships from the Royal Australasian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 1996.

Dr Kitchen has practised widely throughout regional Queensland, including Mackay and Bundaberg, but since 2007 settled with his young family in Rockhampton and now consults from CQ Eye and Central Queensland Cataract Centre in Rockhampton and Gladstone.

All surgery is carried out by Dr Kitchen who has personally performed more than 40,000 cataract operations to date, using state-of-the-art equipment. Dr Kitchen has been a consultant eye specialist for approaching three decades and has a special interest in cataract and intraocular refractive surgery, medical retina (including age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy), glaucoma and oculoplastic surgery.

Dr Kitchen is also a Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology with the University of Queensland. He is heavily involved in the teaching of ophthalmology to final year medical students, general practitioners as well as trainee and advanced optometrists.

He enjoys a round of golf when his schedule allows and is thankful to be raising his family within a friendly community.

Bulk billing for Medicare rebatable services is available for cataract related measurements and surgery for eligible patients with a valid Medicare card. Please check with us prior to your visit to ensure you are eligible to be bulk billed and have chosen the relevant cataract surgery pathway that suits your desires and needs.
